Short Stories is a collection of five pieces, written at the request of Luca Quintavalle and commissioned by the Forberg – Schneider Foundation, conceived during the second lockdown period.
These pieces are short stories inspired by the experience of isolation, almost like pages from a diary.
The first movement presents fragments of notes scattered across the keyboard’s range.
The second is a sort of sampler, where different electronic files follow one another, controlled by the keyboard part.
The third piece features a heterogeneous section in which various musical figures alternate.
The fourth focuses on the lower register and on the timbral effect created by repeating the same note on different keyboards, generating resonances derived from spectral analysis of the sound.
In the fifth piece (whose material had already been introduced in the third movement), a gradual process takes place, which composes, modifies, and finally deconstructs a scale.
The electronics are conceived as an extension of the instrument and are based on treatments of the harpsichord sound, as well as sounds from synthesizers and drum machines.
